Maharashtra And Haryana Government Formation Live Updates: Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar is expected to stake claim on Saturday to form the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in its second consecutive term. Khattar on Friday morning left for New Delhi to meet party national President Amit Shah and other Independent Legislators.
Despite falling short by 14 seats to get the magic figure in the 90-member Haryana Assembly, the Congress is hopeful of forming government in the state with the support of Dushyant Chautala's JJP and Independents (mostly BJP turncoats), party leaders said on Friday.
Senior Congress leader Ambika Soni said that the party will try to form the government in the state. She was addressing the media at Congress interim President Sonia Gandhi's residence.
The Bharatiya Janata Party and the Shiv Sena combine comfortably placed to retain power in Maharashtra and the alliance is set to retain power for a second consecutive term, while the Haryana Assembly poll verdict on Thursday threw up a hung House, with no party reaching the majority figures.
In Maharashtra, the situation is less precarious as the Sena had agreed for a pre-poll alliance, but still the Maratha party is pushing for a split term between Sena and BJP chief ministers. The BJP will remain watchful of which way the wind blows.

Haryana MLAs More Educated Than Their Maharashtra Counterparts
Believe it or not, after these Assembly elections, there are more educated MLAs in Haryana than Maharashtra, according to a report by PRS Legislative Research. 57 per cent of the 288 MLAs from Maharashtra have at least a bachelor's degree while the number is 69 per cent in case of Haryana's 90 lawmakers.
The report also says that 15 per cent of Maharashtra MLAs hold post graduate degrees while in case of Haryana, the number is 18 per cent.
Though neither of the states fared well in terms of female representation, Haryana fared partially well here as well. A total of 24 women candidates were elected in Maharashtra, forming 8 per cent of the house's strength, while in Haryana, the number is 10 per cent.

Sources have told ABP News that BJP, after massive criticism, has decided not to include Haryana Lokhit Party's (HLP) ML Gopal Kanda in the Manohar Lal Khattar government. Kanda has been accused of rape.
According to reports, BJP President Amit Shah has appointed Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and National General Secretary Arun Singh as Central Observer in a meeting convened to elect the leader of the party in Haryana.
Soon after JJP leader Dushyant Chautala held a press conference and presented his demands in order to extent support to BJP or Congress to form government in Haryana, Congress leader BS Hooda said about the Common Minimum Program and 'Man Sammaan Sthaan', everything is there in our manifesto and we have no problem with anything. After meeting Haryana leaders, BJP working president JP Nadda met the party's president Amit Shah at his residence here during the wee hours of Friday. BJP's Haryana in-charge and party General Secretary Anil Jain and party's new Organising Secretary BL Santosh were also present in the meeting. The meeting comes in view of Haryana polls where BJP has fallen short of seats to form the government. The leaders, along with Nadda, reached Shah's residence at 1 am and left at 2:10 am.

The outcome of the Assembly polls held on October 21 is a setback for the BJP, which had won 47 seats in the last state elections in 2014 and had been expressing confidence about raising its tally beyond 75 this time, using the nationalist pitch of abolition of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir and Balakot air strike.
The results came as a shocker for the saffron party, particularly since it had won all the 10 seats in the Lok Sabha elections held just five months back. The Congress had failed to open account in the April-May Lok Sabha elections.

The BJP had formed the government in Haryana for the first time in 2014, when it improved its tally from four in the previous elections.
The INLD, which ruled the state the last time from 2000 to 2004, stood second with 19 seats in the last Assembly elections and was the main Opposition party in the outgoing House.
The JJP was formed in December last year after Dushyant Chautala, grandson of four-time Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala, split from the INLD following a bitter fight in the family.
The Congress has already begun efforts to woo JJP leader Dushyant Chautala but he has refused to spell out his future course of action, saying it will be decided after the party's meeting on Friday.
In Maharashtra, where 288 seats are at stake, the BJP won 104 seats and was leading in 1 more as of midnight. Its ally Shiv Sena won 56 seats, taking their combined lead tally to 161 seats.
From the Opposition camp, the Congress won 43 seats and was leading in one more while its alliance partner Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) ended up with 54 seats.
Going by the results and trends, the BJP's tally is lesser by 17 seats compared to its performance in the last Assembly elections held in 2014 when it got 122 seats. Shiv Sena had 63 seats last time.
The NCP improved its performance significantly as it had got 41 seats in the last Assembly elections, when the Congress had got 42 seats.
