Jharkhand Election Result HIGHLIGHTS: JMM-Cong-RJD Alliance Sweeps Poll; BJP Faces Rout
Jharkhand Assembly Election Results 2019 LIVE UPDATES: The alliance of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), Congress and the Rashtriya Janata Dal, headed for a clear majority by winning 47 out of the 81 seats. The Bharatiya Janata Party was thwarted by the alliance at 25 seats. In what is being dubbed as the party's best performance so far in the state, the JMM emerged as the single largest party with 30 seats.
Later trends of the day indicated that BJP's debacle has become inevitable and conceding defeat, outgoing CM raghubar das submitted resignation to the Governor on Monday evening, who asked him to continue till the next government is formed.
Congress workers began celebrating at party headquarter in Delhi as they smelt victory in the mineral-rich eastern state.
Hemant Soren, the Chief Ministerial candidate of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal who is all set to be the next CM of the state for a second time, registered victory from Barhait and Dumka seats.
Former Deputy Chief Minister and All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) President Sudesh Kumar Mahto registered victory in Silli constituency.
Scroll down for highlights of the day.
The victory of the JMM-Congress alliance in Jharkhand has come as a moral booster for opposition unity and for the grand old party seeking to become relevant again in Indian politics after suffering two successive defeats in general elections.
Party leaders feel that the BJP is not invincible and can be defeated if like-minded parties get together. This, they feel, has been proved right in some states and the experiment can be implemented in upcoming polls.
The poll results indicate that local and real issues of farm crisis, economy and unemployment have found more resonance at the ground and that bodes well for the opposition in future polls to win back states from the BJP.

People's mandate has not been in favour of BJP, but whatever has been the verdict of the people, we respect it. I hope Hemant Soren & his govt will work to fulfill the dreams of the people.
The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) spearheaded by alliance’s chief ministerial candidate Hemant Soren, is leading on 30 seats in the 81-seat assembly. It has registered victory on 8 seats so far and is leading on the rest 22 seats. This is considered to be the best ever performance by the party, which had not won more than 19 seats in the state.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Twitter: ‘We respect the mandate given by the people of Jharkhand. We express our heartfelt gratitude to the people for the opportunity given to BJP to serve the state for 5 years. BJP will remain committed to the development of the state continuously. Congratulations to all the workers for their tireless hard work.’
Former Deputy Chief Minister and All Jharkhand Students Union Party (AJSU) President Sudesh Kumar Mahto won the Silli assembly seat by 20,000 votes.
Mahto defeated JMM candidate Seema Devi by nearly 20,000 votes. Mahtao secured 81,533 votes and Seema Devi managed to get 61,544 votes. Mahto's party is leading in three seats, including Silli.

Das is still trailing from Jamshedpur East seat.

The counting of votes for 81 Jharkhand Assembly seats, which went to polls in five phases from 30 November to 20 December, has begun. The counting of votes is underway in all the 24 district headquarters. The maximum rounds of counting will take place at Chatra with 28 rounds and lowest round at two seats — Chandankyari and Torpa.
After BJP swept power at the Centre, the party managed to increase its tally from 18 in 2009 Assembly polls to 37 in 2014 polls in the state. After the polls, six JVM-P MLA merged with the BJP.
JMM won 17 seats, while its current ally Congress bagged six seats, and five seats went to AJSU's tally.
The tenure of the current Assembly ends on January 5, 2020. This is the fourth Assembly election in Jharkhand since the state was carved out of Bihar in 2000.
The exits polls have indicated a marginal advantage to the JMM-led alliance but have pointed towards a hung Assembly.
According to the ABP/C-Voter exit poll, JMM, Congress and RJD will retain 35 seats. It has, however, given 32 seats to the ruling BJP, 5 to AJSU and three to the Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) and six to others.
Raghubar Das is contesting from the Jamshedpur East seat against his ex-cabinet colleague Saryu Rai, who is fighting as an independent, and Congress candidate Gourav Vallabh.
Former Chief Minister Hemant Soren is the fray from two seats -- Dumka and Barhet. BJP has pitted Women and Child Development Minister Louis Marandi in Dumka against Soren.
Among other big leaders are AJSU President Sudesh Mahto, who lost the 2014 Assembly poll, and is trying his luck again from Silli seat and former Chief Minister and JVM-P chief Babulal Marandi who is fighting from Dhanwar Assembly seat.
Jharkhand Agriculture Minister Randhir Singh is contesting from Sarath constituency, former deputy chief minister and sitting JMM MLA Stephen Marandi is in the poll fray from Maheshpur and JD(U)'s Salkhan Murmu is fighting from Sikaripara.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), Congress, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), All Jharkhand Students' Union (AJSU) and Jharkhand Vikas Morcha-Prajatantrik (JVM-P) are among the major political parties which are in the fray in the tribal-dominated state.
Both BJP and Congress alliance made their best efforts to lure the voters.
