After Delhi Win, AAP Hints At Going National

As the Aam Aadmi Party swept the Delhi Assembly polls, the party gave hints of taking its politics at the national level. Addressing volunteers for the first time after the results, AAP Delhi chief Gopal Rai said the city gave votes to love and defeated hate.

He said in Hindi that 'Baat nikli hai toh dur talak jaigi' (We will go a long way).

The way you celebrate love in Delhi, it gave a new definition of patriotism that involved working for the common man. A new kind of nationalism was born here which speaks about common man and improvement in their living standards: Rai said

Almost all exit polls predicted little change in the fortunes of the Congress, which had ruled the city between 1998 and 2013 but drew a blank in the 2015 polls. If Congress sources are to be believed, the party hopes to win some seats provided the minorities voters chose it over the AAP.

Trends on the Delhi Assembly election results will start coming in soon after the counting starts at 8:00 am. Here is an introduction of ABP News' expert panel who will guide you on developments throughout the coverage.

While the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) asserts that the sudden increase in the polling percentage on Saturday is a 'good sign', the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) expressed doubts about EVM 'manipulations'. The Election Commission, however, stated clearly that all electronic voting machines (EVMs) are beyond any 'cloud of doubt'.
The BJP leaders have claimed that the results of the Delhi Assembly elections that will be announced on Tuesday will take everyone by surprise as 'the saffron party is all set to stake claim to power with a resounding majority'. The polling for the 70-member Delhi Assembly, held on February 8, recorded over 60 per cent voter turnout.
Meanwhile, exit polls have predicted that the AAP will win a two-thirds majority with some giving it a three-fourth majority in the 70-member assembly.

The Congress is hopeful of winning some seats in the Delhi assembly elections held on February 8, the results of which will be announced on Tuesday. A senior Congress leader said 'Guessing the results a day ahead is not a wise idea but we are going to get more than the predictions.'
The ruling AAP has sought to retain power on development agenda, while the main opposition BJP ran an aggressive campaign centred around issues of anti-CAA protests and nationalism.
Overall, Delhi polls witnessed 62.59 per cent voting, around 5 per cent less than the 2015 Assembly polls. The highest voting of 71.6 per cent was reported from the Ballimaran Assembly constituency, while the lowest turnout was in Delhi cantonment, which reported 45.4 per cent voting.
The counting of votes polled in the high-stakes Delhi Assembly elections will begin at 8am. Delhi's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Ranbir Singh said on Sunday that 21 centres have been set up in the city for the counting of votes that will begin from 8 am.

Delhi Election Result 2020 HIGHLIGHTS: After the voting for much-crucial Delhi Assembly elections 2020 ended on February 8, counting of votes will take place on February 11 (Tuesday). As per the Election Commission official statement, the national capital witnessed 62.59 per cent voter turnout this year, which was around 5 per cent less than the 2015 Assembly polls. The highest voting of 71.6 per cent was reported from the Ballimaran constituency, while the lowest turnout was in Delhi cantonment, which reported 45.4 per cent polling.

It appears to be that the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is going into the Assembly polls with the hope to repeat its stellar performance of the last legislative elections, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which bagged all seven seats here in the Lok Sabha election in May 2019, will be aiming at expanding its vote share in the national capital.

Nevertheless, even Congress is seeking to better its performance than last time when it did not bag any seat in the Assembly polls, but improved its vote share in 2019 polls. However, several Exit Poll results predict otherwise for the grand old party.

Counting time

Counting of votes will start around 8 am on Tuesday. However, ABP News will start is extensive coverage on Tuesday from 6 am. As per reports, the EC has set up around 21 centres for counting of votes. "We have set up 21 centres for counting of votes, wherein there will be a dedicated hall for every constituency. The counting will start at 8 am on February 11," Delhi's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Ranbir Singh told new agency ANI.

What do Exit Polls say?

An exit poll conducted by ABP-CVoter projected a clean sweep for Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP in the bitterly-fought Delhi Assembly Elections. The exit poll has predicted AAP to get between 49 to 63 seats in the 70-member House, where the majority mark is 36, though it may lose a few seats here and there.

BJP which aimed to return to power in the national capital is expected to win between a low of 5 seats to a high of 19 seats. This means the saffron party’s 22-year-old wait may extend for another five years for a shot in the capital's government.

However, soon after Exit poll of various media houses predicted a thumping majority for AAP, several BJP leaders including Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP Delhi unit chief Manoj Tiwari dissed the claims and said that the saffron party would bag more than 45 seats in the national capital and form government.

The ABP News C-Voter survey also tipped Congress to be at a distant third with a maximum of four (0-4) seats in the polls. In the 2015 polls, AAP won 67 seats while the BJP collected the remaining three seats. The Congress had failed to bag even a single seat.

Even the poll of Exit Polls (an average of Exit Polls conducted by various media organisations) suggest the ruling AAP is all set to sweep back to power in Delhi. While some exit polls suggest that the BJP is likely to gain ground, it is not enough for the saffron party to have a taste of power, in spite of being out of power for almost two decades.

2015 Assembly Elections

In the last Delhi assembly election in 2015, the AAP won 67 of the 70 seats, with a total vote-share of 54 per cent. It's projected to rise to 56 per cent in 2020. The BJP is projected to secure a vote-share of 35 per cent, up from 32 per cent in the 2015 Delhi Assembly vote.
